The idea of strengthening the muscle by focusing on the mind--muscle connection as well as just the weight itself is a great way of building your traps.
FOCUS ON HOW THE MUSCLES WORK
·         If you can do not think of the weight going up and down try to visualize your muscle tightening and squeezing up during the contraction, then resisting and stretching out during the extension.

·          Go with your own instincts, only you know how the muscle feels which doing each exercise. There’s not always a right or wrong way of positioning your body for an exercise. Find out what works right for you and your structure.

·         Work the muscles, not the weight. Don’t worry about how much you or anyone else in the gym is lifting. It’s not about how much weight you can throw around, it’s about how well you work the muscle itself.
